Some things that are happening right now...

Well since my dad got laid off, my parents are thinking of moving to Huntsville next summer. I have some mixed feelings about this, I don't want them to leave, but they have offered to sell their house to me and John, which would be exciting. I'm starting to hope they do move so that we can buy their house, but I feel like I shouldn't feel that way because I don't want my parents to suddenly live 3 hours away after living so close for so long.

Also, yesterday at work they gave my office to someone else, which in and of itself doesn't bother me because I probably don't need an office, I'm only there part time. But it was the fact that when I got to work yesterday all my things were moved to a cubicle and no one told me. Also they gave the new guy, technically not new just returned from having left, my computer. And someone else took my monitor. I got my monitor back fortunately, but I didn't have the heart to take back my computer, since I don't use it that much, because I have the Macbook Air. Its just the principle of the thing, they should have told me he was coming and taking my office and should have asked if I use my computer. I really would have appreciated an email.

The cubicle I'm in now is in a room with the really large printer. I've been in this room before and the printer gives me this horrible headache from the really high pitched noise it makes. I just need to remember my headphones, I hope it drowns out the printer and other people in the room.

Sad Day

I didn't actually finish the mittens in time for the Ren Fest, though I was so close, only like 20 more rows to do. I'll see if I can finish it this week and then get back to working on my sweater, which won't get done this winter but I should be able to wear it next year.

Having just registered for school and signing up for 2 grad classes along with switching to full time working hours we'll see how much knitting gets done next semester.

Start of a new pattern

I decided to start on a new pattern because I want to do something quick to get a sense accomplishment. So I'm going to work on this pattern. I'm doing them in Knit Picks Essential in green and black. After my big Operating Systems exam that starts in 15 minutes and after a full day of work I should get a chance to start these tonight, yay!

OMG School

Ok so I lied about updating soon. Graduate work is hard! I have like a million programs to code and actual work to do, so we'll see if I get around to my sweater. I did finish the back piece and a sleeve though so that something, I guess.

Back to School

Now that I'm back to school, I seem to have a little more time to knit. With my 5 hour break between classes on Monday and Wednesday afternoons I have quite a bit of time on my hands. I'm currently working on the Freya sweater project from JO Sharp. Pictures to come on this, I'm almost done with the back half of the piece.

Day 2

Last night we went to an amazing restaurant and ate freshly caught fish! It also seems here every place has their own way of making a margarita, this place used pineapple and orange juice. In celebration of our marriage we were even given a free dessert, a baked hawaiian. It has chocolate and vanilla ice cream along with seared meringue on top. This morning we went on a 4 hour atv ride through the jungle. We got to see spots where some famous movies have filmed a couple scenes like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. We got so dirty on this ride we are still rubbing dirt off us. On the ride we went to 2 waterfalls and a swimming hole with a rope swing. John made some pretty painful sounding flops in the water :). As soon as we had showeres after the atv trip we went straight to the luau tonight. We got to see them remove a pig from there earthen oven. Then we went into the dining hall where there were free mai tais. For dinner there was an amazing array of different hawaiian foo!
ds, inclu
ding the smoked pig, poi, fresh fruits from their private grove, mahi mahi, and teriaki beef. It all tasted amazing! During dinner a funny peacock was displaying his feathers and making quite a bit of
noise. We had fun watching it dance around. After dinner there was a cool dancing show with polynesian, chinese, japanese, hawaiian, phillipine, and new zealand style dancing. It was all so amazing looking. I expecially enjoyed the fire dancing. John really like the chinese lion dance. I will post some pictures in the morning, we have had a tiring day.

Day 1

Our first real day here! We drove to our ziplining adventure in our Chrysler Seabring convertible, which we got as a free upgrade from the cheapest car they had. It rained a couple times today already and we were worried we would be ziplining in the rain, but fortunately it cleared up in time.Ziplining was so much fun! We zipped through the trees for about 2 hours. In addition to zipping through the trees we crossed to "bridges." The first had all the horizontal pieces but they weren't connected. That wasn't to hard to cross once you got in the motion of it. The second bridge was a rope bridge, I.e. 3 pieces of rope. That bridge was so hard for me to cross I was so scared! John did great, he even did this cool thing where he leaned back and stuck his hand out to the side. We spent the afternoon at the beach. We rented boogie boards for the week and enjoyed catching waves on the shoreline. We also sat at the poolside bar and had a drink.Later tonight we are going to the plant!
ation res
taurant where some of the best fresh fish are found on the island.

We Made It!

We made it to Hawaii, and even more surprising, we are headed to our hotel room. The only reason this is surprising is because we almost didn't get to go to our hotel room tonight, but thanks to mom she got us the last 2 seats on a flight we were told was booked. Thanks mom!We both can't wait to hit the pillows and go to sleep. Zzz...

Our Wedding Video

Our wedding is coming up and I made this video to show before the ceremony.

Just a quick post. My 22 year old cousin died of a crystal meth overdose on Tuesday, May 28th. I will be very busy for the next week preparing to attend his memorial and mourn his lose. To return soon.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

I started a local knitting group through UTD, we had our first meeting a few weeks ago and will be having another the Sunday after Mother's Day. This week has been so stressful. I still have 1 final left this morning and 2 papers due tomorrow. So I'll be knitting again after that. Also I got an internship! So I'll start that on Thursday too!

Bible Binary

I started a binary scarf today, based on this. I'm encoding a couple bible verses into the scarf for a personal touch. Pictures to be added soon.

So bored....and a little busy.

It was a boring weekend. I finished a goomba hat last week for my fiance for his birthday, and then, because I don't want to do another goomba hat just yet, I took a little break. I haven't knitted anything since probably Wednesday and that has made life a little boring. It helps that finals start on Thursday, meaning I should be doing plenty of other things, but nothing is quite the same as knitting. :(

Crazy Colorful Socks

Here is the first sock of the colorful crazy sock. I am halfway done with the second sock and can't wait to start wearing them.

I could have sworn that these were going to be some ugly socks, because the yarn was not that pretty, but it was free so I can't complain. But these socks are so cute and I can't wait to make another pair. The 2 skeins of colorful yarn looks like its going to make 4-6 pairs of these socks, so maybe I'll make some as gifts, or try something new. Either way I'm happy I found a way to turn ugly yarn into cute socks.

I hope I can finish the second by the weekend, it really just depends on how much work there is at school. As soon as I get them finished I'll post a picture of them on my feet, where socks belong!

Goomba....BONK!

I finished the goomba hat last night, it took me about 5-6 hours. Ok so first I look like a dork trying to use my webcam and second, its way too small for my fiance which is who it was originally for. So I will be making up my own pattern for a larger better fitting hat for people with larger heads. I think I'm going to go to larger needles and add a few stitches to the cast on, also I think I'm going to add about 20 rows to get it to be a little longer. But first, I got my free sock yarn in and I am going to do some anklet socks.

Cats: It's oh so quiet

Cats: It's oh so quiet
Video sent by chiaraf

it's. oh. so quiet
it'a oh. so still
you're all alone
and so peaceful until...

you fall in love
zing boom
the sky up above
zing boom
is caving in
wow bam
you've never been so nuts about a guy
you wanna laugh you wanna cry
you cross your heart and hope to die

'til it's over and then
it's nice and quiet
but soon again
starts another big riot

you blow a fuse
zing boom
the devil cuts loose
zing boom
so what's the use
wow bam
of falling in love

it's. oh. so quiet
it's. oh. so still
you're all alone
and so peaceful until...

you ring the bell
bim bam
you shout and you yell
hi ho ho
you broke the spell
gee. this is swell you almost have a fit
this guy is "gorge" and i got hit
there's no mistake this is it

'til it's over and then
it's nice and quiet
but soon again
starts another big riot

you blow a fuse
zing boom
the devil cuts loose
zing boom
so what's the use
wow bam
of falling in love

the sky caves in
the devil cuts loose
you blow blow blow blow blow your fuse
when you've fallen in love

2 Hat Ideas

I have 2 ideas for hats one for me and one for my fiance. Let me know what you think, now I know hats like this already exist on the internet, but I made my own pixel version to count out the stitches. So here's a prototype for a kirby beanie and goomba beanie. And I can't get them to upload without it looking blurry, but imagine past the blurriness, if all goes well then I'll post a better picture with the grid and everything.

One sock down, One to go

Here's the finished sock, now one to go. I guess another week on it and it'll be done. Which is perfect timing because then I should be getting in some more yarn!

Good News

I'm getting some free sock yarn thanks to a blogger I found on the knitting web ring. Can't wait till it gets here!

Bad News

I ordered Book 5 by JO Sharp last week and found out the website I ordered from is out of stock and won't send it for a week or 2 more! I guess it gives me time to finish my sock, but I was really looking forward to using my Silkroad DK Tweed that I bought a few years ago and lost the pattern to. I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer. :(

The Heel Hath Turned

The heel hath turned and here's the picture. Yea I realized after I took the picture that you can't really see the heel, but give me a day or two and it will probably be finished.

After I find my camera's SD card I'll update my plant pictures.

Back to the old knit and purl...

I've recently been sucked back into the world of knitting by a friend of mine who wanted to learn how. So after teaching her the basics, casting on, knit and purl and starting her off on a ribbed scarf, I went home to search for my old robe I had started but never came close to finishing.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the pattern.

I've ordered a new pattern that uses the same yarn, JO Sharp Silkroad DK Tweed. Its a cute sweater from JO Sharp called Freya.

Well pending the book with the new pattern coming in I started a pair of socks since I had all the tools on hand, no need to spend any money! And here's where I am so far...
And I only started yesterday! My favorite part is that the yarn is self striping, yep that's right self striping, be sure to take another look.

More to come soon on how my plants are fairing and how the heel hath turned.

Spring is Coming

Spring is coming and Beverly and I have decided to plant some tomatoes, zucchini, and beans for harvest season. It should be fun and I'll be updating as the plants begin to grow. Yes, Longitude 59 is still on the back burner, I'm taking 18 hours this semester and I just don't have the time to do extra things, well I mean I guess I have 30 hours a week somewhere to play World of Warcraft, but beyond that I just don't have the time .
